Lippage is a condition where there is visible height difference where two ceramic tile meet. The possible causes of lippage are:

Gloss variation

Gloss variation is commonly a manufacturing issue. The gloss may vary with one tile or from tile to tile. It is possible to affect the finish (gloss level) with acids. Qualified installers should stop the installation at the first sign of noticeable gloss variation.
